Come be a part of the Missions at St. James
The purpose of the missions committee at St James is to foster and facilitate the Lord’s work locally, nationally,
and internationally, with the help of caring and passionate members of our congregation. God has blessed
the committee over the years with hard working people who love the Lord and are committed to His purpose.
As the Missions Committee considers its work over the next year, a core question comes to mind: What would
God have us do to build His kingdom here on Earth? To try to answer that question, the Missions Committee
is embarking on a visioning process over the next couple of months. The purpose is to discern God’s will for
the direction of missions at St. James UMC. I ask you to prayerfully consider serving on the committee.
If you
have a passion for serving the Lord in a missions capacity, I invite you to join us and be a part of God’s work
on the Missions Committee at St. James. Please contact Dennis at church or Telford Locklear (353-6018) if
you would like to discuss this opportunity.

Missions
The Missions Committee of St. James United Methodist Church is the service outreach arm of the church. It is the committee through which faith and deeds merge. Through the planning efforts of this group of dedicated servants of Christ, the greater St. James community of believers is afforded the opportunity to minister to those of lesser means. Mission work is everyone’s work, and this committee is by no means the only way St. James reaches out to the mission field. Many smaller and very effective efforts of mission are carried out daily by individual members, Sunday school classes, and other organized service groups within the church.

The Missions Committee works primarily to organize, and execute efforts that support the Rainbow Covenant. The Rainbow Covenant is a mission concentration dealing with ministering to needs across the world, our nation, missionaries, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and the Methodist Conference. Each year the Missions Committee chooses projects across a broad range of mission opportunities in order to extend ourselves beyond the “first mile” of giving. The Rainbow Covenant manifests itself within St. James through efforts that support local homeless shelters, sending mission teams and financial support to areas hit by natural disasters, providing manpower and materials to medical missions within Central America, supporting the Heifer Project on world hunger relief, collecting winter coats, socks and mittens for needy children, and preparing Christmas boxes in support of Samaritan’s Purse. Other notable efforts include running local blood drives, helping the Greenville Habitat for Humanity, and assisting in the local Meals on Wheels Program.

The work of the Missions Committee is to create within every member of St. James a “mission mentality” where mission work is not viewed as a series of events, but a constant attitude of service to fellow man. The Missions Committee is a vital part of Christ’s ministry on this earth and through this group each member of St. James is provided the opportunity to become the “living presence of Christ” in someone’s life.

you have done it unto me”
